In this book one thing to think about is the fact that it took place a few months after the 911 world trade center bombing. The fact that it is a young little kid narrating this book is amazing. Though that sets the story to a more complicated level, it seems though as if it is a kids perspective on his father that died in the 911 attack. In this type of event it makes things especially hard for one person to deal with. I can't imagine losing either one of your parents at all. Yet this happens to a small child which i find rather depressing in general.
This book inspired me to YouTube the 9/11 attack because i was always to scared to see the destruction but because this author had made it sound as if the character can live through seeing that, so i decided to see it and hope it won't terrify/petrify me at all. I really wishes people had parachutes. I told my brother that one day, when we get enough power to speak up, we'll tell people they should have parachutes in tall buildings. Enough to supply the whole floor or 1 for 2 people. This would have helped a lot in th 9/11 attack.
When I saw the building collapse, It was heartbreaking. I wondered if that is how Oscar felt when he heard his dad died. It is a large scar on human history. And a deeper scar in the human heart.
Yu, This is a great post - I am so glad that you were affected so much. What else can you say about the text itself, though?
ReplyDeleteI guess I can say that at first it was really confusing. But when I re-read it, I noticed it was going back and forth in time. I really liked it not only or its originality but because it had such deep feelings in it.
