I have read flowers for Algernon. It is a sad book and one thing i would like to think about is the circumstances that Charlie, the main character is going through. First of all, we all know from the moment we open the book that Charlie is a mentally challenged man who is in the stage of being very childish and immature. He doesn't really comprehend the world as most people because of his extremely low IQ. He seems to have a yearning for understanding other things better. His feeling takes control of him than he really wants to and the way he writes his diary was exactly like how my little brother (in 2nd grade) would write. Less of grammar and correct spelling and more of all the made up worlds and many, many incomplete or run on sentences. He seems to have this urge to be like the other people and considers himself very dumb.
Charlie I think is a very depressed person after this certain event that has showed him being smart was a beautiful bright world of sunshine. I actually feel bad for him because once you get used to something or used to being a certain type of circumstance, going back to your original circumstance makes everything feel like a dream and it is very sad.
The chacter in your book seems Pathetic.I also feel bad for him, I mean it's never someone fault if they are dumb because they were born that way right?? I guess books are like that, they change after time, from being dumb to smart.
ReplyDeleteOh, the book seems so interesting, do you think I can borrow it?? :)
I remember someone in our class last year reading this, and recently, I was thinking about it. I couldn't remember the title and was trying so hard to remember it- thanks for helping me out! XD I really wanted to read this! :D Perhaps soon I shall leave my lazy self behind and walk to Barnes and Nobles to get it! Ah ha ha ha... I feel so bad for people with mental diseases... It makes me so sad how people mistreat them because of something no one would have WANTED to happen, but just did. It must be so hard for parents to cope with their child if they're mentally challenged... Well, basically every parent has a hard time coping with their teenage child! Ah ha ha!
ReplyDelete>.< @ reed, it was me reading it last year......
ReplyDeleteI reread it so I can know deeper into the story.
